A controversy was initiated following the appointment on May 16 last Miss Universe Sarodj Bertin Haiti. On the Net, the debate raged between anti-and pro-Sarodj.

Since the publication by Haiti Press Network, a dispatch announcing that Haiti would participate in the Miss Universe contest after 21 years absence, and that the country would be represented by Sarodj Bertin, the news had a ball Snow on the net, bounced in the press and came on the airwaves of radio stations in the Haitian capital.

The above-mentioned telegram has even been repeated almost in its entirety in an editorial that The Nouvelliste devoted to the case, and an article in the same edition. In PNH, this dispatch is at the top of the most popular, visited nearly 900 times in two weeks.

In the article published by the oldest newspaper in Haiti, participating in the contest for the Miss Universe designer Haiti, including former Miss VidĂ©omax Cottecheese Medgine Maritza Peter and Peter, have denounced what they called a “farce” and say have been misled about what they thought was casting for a contest which turned out to be eventually be the competition itself.

In text posted on his Facebook page, Maritza speaks of plot, a nickname contest whose outcome was known in advance.
Neither plot nor bad faith, but only a misunderstanding, said Jean Bertin, Sarodj father, in an article published in the Nouvelliste to give his version of events. As explained by the former Minister Counsellor ChargĂ© d’Affaires at the Embassy of Haiti in Dominican Republic, the misunderstanding is the definition that the complainants give the casting.

A casting, defines it, is a contest which takes place outside of public influence. That is exactly what it was, and the goal of casting was to choose one and only one figure that would not crowned Miss Haiti, but Haiti Miss Universe.

There are nuances, “says Jean Bertin, and it exists in the fact that here the name of the country that is designated to attribute the girl to his home country. This is not to specify that she was elected after a national competition.

Bertin Sarodj should represent Haiti at the Miss Universe to be held this summer in August, the United States. In the meantime, the debate rages on Facebook or between anti-and pro-Sarodj. Many messages of encouragement, but also some personal attacks. It is even comments with hints of racism, arguing that, with fair complexion and a grandmother on the Dominican side, Sarodj can not claim to represent Haiti in the prestigious competition. The more moderate Internet users say they favor that Sarodj Bertin represents Haiti but question the way she was crowned Miss Haiti.

Three Facebook pages were created to promote the candidacy of Sarodj Bertin. Many Internet users are added each day to support the daughter of lawyer Mireille Durocher Bertin, brutally murdered March 28, 1994h 28, 1994
